THERE'S NOTHING TO SEE HERE
26TH-30TH JULY 2023

‘There’s Nothing to See Here,’ was the first solo exhibition by artist Carl Dusu held at Espacio Gallery, London. The exhibition explored the essence of humanhood through an expedition of experiences and topics that affect our life journeys. The issues and subjects depicted transcend age, race, gender, ability, sexuality, beliefs, and all other parameters pertaining to our human existence that essentially make us who we are. Curated by Alero Helena Opuama, the exhibition reflected Carl‘s interests in specific life experiences, such as loneliness, loss, race, equality, and identity, through his figurative surrealist paintings and poetry. Through the tactful playfulness of his work, Carl used a combination of soft and bold colors to deliver and convey challenging themes based on his experiences and that of his muses. Through the purposive play of structure, striking compositions, an array of evocative colors, and decorative features symbolizing beauty, loneliness, and growth, the exhibition was intended to evoke conversation between the art and its viewer. With the hope of igniting thoughtful dialogues, this show challenged its viewers to make the uncomfortable comfortable through attenuative statements attached to a lack of particular life experiences and empathic connections by the masses. Therefore, ‘‘There’s Nothing to See Here’ aided its audience with an empathetic environment to make uncomfortable conversations comfortable and share.
